Ruby is a tough and durable gemstone, measuring 9 on the Mohs scale they are second only to diamonds. Ruby has always symbolized passion, protection and wealth which make it a symbol of love, commitment and wealth.
The presence of Chromium gives ruby the distinct red hue, the presence of ferric iron gives it the orange and pink shades.
